Package Description
Kiosk Manager manages the computers by your TVs from Rock. See every kiosk's health, change what it shows
and when its screen turns off and on, and restart or reboot it, without walking to the TV. It works with the free
Works In All Things Kiosk, which turns any
Linux computer into a full-screen player for one web page, such as a Signage Player URL.
Features
- Add a kiosk in one step: give it a name, a campus and location, the address to show, and its time zone, rotation, resolution, screen times and nightly restart. Rock gives you one command to paste on the new computer. It installs Kiosk with those settings and links the computer to Rock, with no questions. A computer that already runs Kiosk is linked with one command too.
- See every kiosk: online, offline or needing attention, what it's showing, whether its screen is on, its Kiosk version and when it was last seen, updated live. Cards at the top count them and filter the list.
- Each kiosk's health: the browser and whether it's running, the screen, whether its settings are applied, the computer and distribution, IP addresses, uptime, free disk space, memory, temperature and the last problem in its log.
- Remote actions: Restart Browser, Screen Off, Screen On, Reboot and Update Kiosk, on one kiosk or on several at once, with each kiosk's recent actions and what came of them.
- Change times in bulk: set the screen times or nightly restart of several kiosks at once.
- Permissions that fit: give staff Restart Browser and Reboot without letting them change settings. Only people with Edit can add, change or remove kiosks.
- Works with Signage: when the Signage plugin is installed, pick a kiosk's address from your Signage displays. Kiosk Manager works just as well without it.
- Safe by design: kiosks contact Rock; Rock never connects to them, so no ports are opened on your network. Rock can only send the settings above and the five actions, never commands, and every computer proves itself with its own token (Rock keeps only a hash). Kiosk Manager has nothing to do with check-in and never touches Rock's devices.
- Built for Rock: Obsidian blocks, plugin migrations, standard Rock security, and a full uninstall script.
What gets installed
- Admin Tools > Installed Plugins > Kiosk Manager (viewable by the RSR - Staff Workers and RSR - Staff Like Workers roles): Kiosks (
/kioskmanager/kiosks) and a hidden Kiosk page for each kiosk.
- Two tables (kiosks and their recent actions) and the API kiosks call:
/api/v2/plugins/com.worksinallthings/kioskmanager.
Setup
- Check that the Internal Application Root global attribute is the address your kiosks can reach, ideally
https://. Kiosks contact Rock there.
- On Kiosks, click Add, fill in the kiosk and save. Paste the command Rock shows on a computer running Ubuntu, Debian, Raspberry Pi OS, Fedora, Arch or openSUSE.
- Within a minute the kiosk shows its address and appears online in Rock.
Requirements
- Rock RMS 19.4 or later.
- Computers running Works In All Things Kiosk 1.0 or later (free, on any Linux distribution with systemd), able to reach Rock.
- Rock RealTime for live updates (on by default).
